Barcelona, capital city of Catalonia, lies on the Mediterranean coast on a plain between the Llobregat river to the South-West and the Besós to the North-East. To the South it borders the coastline and to the North-West it borders the Collserola chain mountain with its highest peak at Tibidabo (516 m high).

The Costa Brava is the coastline from Cap de Cervera to the North of Portbou, to Sa Palomera rock in Blanes. The beaches on this craggy outline and the waterfront villages along the coastline are not the only appeal of the Costa Brava; there are also the nature sights at the natural parks of Aiguamolls de l’Empordà and Cap de Creus, Illes Medes and Banyoles lake, the medieval historical past well-preserved in Pals and the old part of Girona, the romanesque art of Sant Pere de Rodes or Salvador Dali’s surrealism.

The Costa Daurada stretches from the Garraf coast, South of Barcelona, to the area of the River Ebro Delta. Its beaches are the most remarkable feature of this coast. They have fine golden sand and low, smooth sea-beds. The Romanesque complex of Tarragona, the theme park of Port Aventura and the natural park of Delta de l’Ebre and natural park Dels Ports are also of outstanding interest.
